The influence of posttraumatic stress disorder on military life

The encounter with the phenomenon of death is a fundamental upsetting experience. From that moment, a set of biological, psychological, physiological mechanisms is triggered in people's minds, through which they try to face this totally unique situation, even for a soldier trained for these circumstances. The military is no longer able to cope with this situation ", said, in 2015, the psychiatrist Humbert Boissaux. Known as PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), post-traumatic stress syndrome occurs after experiencing events such as war, natural disasters, etc. In this article, we analyze the empirical literature on the epidemiology and screening of PTSD in military populations in NATO bases in Romania, where the phenomenon of PTSD has grown in the recent years. Given that research in the field is quite poor, this information may contribute to informing prevention and screening efforts, as screening programs could be targeted at high-risk populations. veterans and active military personnel, the continuous development and evaluation of effective screening methods is an important public health need.
